Getting to Munich by Carhome > getting there > by car
Driving to Munich along Germany's excellent roads can be fun; the autobahns often don't have speed limits. If you drive a slowish car you'll find yourself looking more in your rear-view mirror than in front to look out for speeding BMWs, Mercedes or Audis coming up behind you. If you want to drive a rental car to munich, you'll find all the major car rental firms in the city. Bear in mind that if you do choose to drive, your car will be next to useless while you're there. Parking in the city itself is a nightmare, though if you're staying in a hotel further out e.g. Dachau or Karlsfeld, you shouldn't have a problem. Parking aside, having a car isn't a bad idea because Munich is an excellent staging post for exploration further south, e.g. Austria, Italy, the Alps.
