Eating out in Munich
There are a huge number of restaurants, bars and pubs in Munich and you’ll find something for every price range or taste. Some of them are open until 4 a.m. at night too. The warm spring and summer months make sitting outside in the numerous cafes a real pleasure.
Prices vary according to type of restaurant and location, but generally you can eat good food inexpensively in Munich. The cheapest food is Italian with a single course meal and drink for one costing about 10-14 Euro. Indian food is around 16-17 Euro, and Japanese more expensive still. Traditional Bavarian food costs around 16-18 Euro per person. The standard tip seems to be around 5 – 10%.
Nearly all restaurants have a lunchtime menu which usually features the same items from the evening menu but at very much cheaper prices (often half price).
You can also eat in the many bistros, bars and beer halls. Try the Munich specialities too; Weisswurst, Leberkaese and Schweinebraten to name but a few. Although traditional cuisine is meat heavy, vegetarians will be able to get by too.
